England, September 2018: Rye & East Sussex Video Moments

Back at the end of September we decided to escape the city for a weekend away on the south coast of England. Hopping in the car and driving down from London, we made stops in both Dungeness for the old lighthouse and Rye Harbour to wander through the nature reserve. Our final destination and home base for the weekend was the quaint town of Rye—a place that quickly became a favorite after our visit. Our days were full of weaving around the cobblestone streets, drinking hot chocolate, and shopping in the vintage stores. On the first evening we spent time strolling along Camber Sands catching golden hour and the sun setting over the ocean. It was hard to say goodbye after such peaceful moments!

Wales, May 2018: Snowdonia National Park Video Moments

We have a habit of saying we want to go to all these places in the UK while we are living here but then not following through. It is easy to get caught up with hopping on a plane and heading south but there is so much natural beauty to be found just a drive away from London. Our weekend in Snowdonia got us back on track with that and helped us capture our love for the green countryside. It also restored a passion of hiking for us. We could not have had a better weekend with the sun shining down on us and Spring weather showing its charm. Hiking amongst the blue sky and stunning landscapes of Snowdonia was a by far a highlight of this year.

Wales, May 2018: A Weekend In Snowdonia National Park

In our effort to see more of the UK, Wales’ Snowdonia National Park, often cited as one of the UK’s most beautiful, seemed a natural next step. We always appreciate getting out of the city, breathing fresh air, and reconnecting with nature. Best yet, travel logistics were as easy as they could be as we picked up an Enterprise Car Club car just around the corner from our flat!

England, October 2017: Two Days In Bath

Bath had been on our list pretty much since we moved to London, but a visit had alluded us until we decided enough had been enough! The train ride from Paddington Station couldn’t have been easier and we were immediately greeted with an explosion of Georgian architecture in the golden color of the local Bath stone. Unfortunately, we were also greeted with some pretty heavy rain and we couldn’t yet check into our room at the Abbey Hotel. No fear! We rode out the worst of it at the cozy Foodie Bugle Shop where we indulged in hot chocolate and carrot cake (the shop section also had plenty of stuff to keep us busy browsing).

England, October 2017: A Day Trip To The Seven Sisters

After such a busy period of travel, we've been staying put in London the past few months and enjoying a slower pace lifestyle. While we still have some writing to catch up on for trips we took from July on (Bosnia/Croatia, Ireland, Portugal,...), we thought here would be a good point to pause on those to share what we have been up to more recently. Autumn has been a great time to catch up with friends and refocus on seeing more of what's right nearby us here in England. So, thanks to the help of a couple of those friends, we made it a mission back in October to make our way to The Seven Sisters— the most gorgeous white cliffs—in East Sussex, on the southern coast of England.

England, April 2017: A Two Day Weekend In Yorkshire (Knaresborough)

We’ve made a habit lately of taking day trips to smaller, less visited towns when visiting larger, more popular cities. Part of our motivation is that city breaks sometimes don’t feel like breaks—when you already live in a large, bustling city, sometimes what you really want from a weekend away is a bit of tranquility in the countryside. Hence our half-day trip to Knaresborough!

England, April 2017: A Two Day Weekend in Yorkshire (York)

York, Maine is a very special place to us, so it seemed a no-brainer to visit the city from which it took its name, especially when it’s only a two-hour train ride from London! We stayed at the Jorvik Hotel, a quirky, cozy, and modern spot named for the Viking version of the city’s name in the 9th century. York’s history goes back much further, having been founded by the Romans almost 2,000 years ago. Remnants of the city’s long and varied history dot the place and make it quite an enjoyable place for a visit.

England, February 2017: A Day Trip To The White Cliffs of Dover

The other weekend we needed a little escape from the city and a friend invited us to tag along to Dover to see the White Cliffs. It had been something on our list for awhile so we were excited to join in. We hopped on a morning train from London to Dover Priory to take the two-hour ride down to the southern coast of England. Once we arrived we enjoyed some lunch and then headed out to walk along the edge of the country. The cliffs were as beautiful as I imagined with the crisp white edges contrasting the dark rocks below.

London, England: Afternoon Tea At Sketch

Afternoon tea should have been high up on our list of things to do when we moved to London but it seemed to have slipped far off and out of our radar. One of those—we'll get to it eventually—things. After making my way to Sketch last year with a fellow blogger to enjoy The Glade part of the restaurant, I knew I needed to eventually go back with Rico to get the full experience of afternoon tea in The Gallery.  The (mostly) all pink restaurant may look familiar to you since it's a pretty hot spot to Instagram. I wouldn't be surprised if it was in some top lists—I've seen it pop up quite a bit AND after all, it truly is beautifully weird.

Scotland, May 2016: Isle of Skye Video Moments

Last week we recapped our trip to the Isle of Skye in Scotland on the blog here. It was a great reminder of all there is to see right here in the UK. We took off from London early on a Friday morning with my sister and our friend to soak up as much as we could before leaving Sunday night. With limited time we packed our days to see as much as we could! I have to say that one of the main highlights of the trip was hiking the Old Man of Storr. Another favorite worth noting, sunset at Neist Point. Those are two absolutes in my book! No matter where you go on the Isle of Skye though, there are breath taking views to be found and memories to be made amongst them! We have so much more of the world to still see but when places like this come along, telling you to slow down and enjoy nature, you can't help but want to return again and again. We will just have to see what the future has in store for us!

England, August 2015: The Lake District Video Moments

Our trip up north to England's Lake District was relaxing, full of beautiful landscapes, lush greens, cool blue waters, and some good hiking. It reminded us of the weekends we enjoyed back in the States escaping Boston to head to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. Earlier this week we gave a full recap of the long weekend away (here) and how we basked in the slow pace lifestyle the area encompassed—much different from London's busy streets. It was a weekend we love to reflect back on when have our moments of reminiscing about our travels. We learned that there's so much to discover right here in England and a trip away doesn't always have to mean leaving. We're excited to keep exploring here and are already talking about what area to tackle next!
